Challenge
Sonora's existing platform prioritized algorithmic playlists over genuine discovery. Users felt trapped in echo chambers. The challenge was to design a product that reintroduced serendipity and human curation into the listening experience.
Approach
Through extensive user research and workshops with musicians, curators, and listeners, we mapped the emotional journey of music discovery. The redesigned interface introduces 'Drift Mode' — a spatial, visual-first browsing experience that encourages exploration beyond familiar genres. The UI is deliberately restrained, using album art as the primary visual language.
Outcome
User engagement with discovery features increased by 3x after launch. The redesign was featured as an Apple Design Award finalist and helped Sonora secure their Series B funding round.
